Bill Potter, a longtime attorney, civic benefactor and member of Florida Institute of Technology’s Board of Trustees, will speak Monday, May 9, about his extraordinary experiences as an international election supervisor for and military advisor to the Office of the High Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990s following that region’s brutal war and ensuing peace efforts.

Potter detailed these experiences in his 2005 book, A Bosnian Diary: A Floridian’s Experience at Nation Building, which he will sign at the event in the Hartley Room of the university’s Denius Student Center. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by cocktails until 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Florida Tech Executive Vice President and COO T. Dwayne McCay will offer opening remarks at 7, followed by Potter’s presentation.

The evening will conclude with a book signing from 8-9 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person for regular admission, $45 for Lifelong Scholar Society members.

A Bosnian Diary recounts Potter’s experiences and observations during the crucial period of restructuring and the attempted restoration of order and stability to a region besieged by internecine warfare, ethnic cleansing, massive civilian casualties and the ensuing economic collapse.

The work Potter did in Bosnia-Herzegovina was merely a continuation of his long and illustrious career of service, which included 30 years as an Air Force officer. He has long served the people of Brevard County as an attorney for the cities of Melbourne, Indialantic and Melbourne Village, as well as for the Brevard Transportation Authority.

In addition to his tenure on Florida Tech’s Board of Trustees, he has also served numerous organizations and charities, including the Florida board of directors for the American Cancer Society, Brevard Economic Council, Junior Achievement and the Astronauts Memorial Foundation.

Potter has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
